Smoothies - Good for you Comfort Food
Whenever I’m not feeling real great and haven’t been eating as well as I’d like I start adding smoothies into the rotation. Its easy to grab fast food or to slip into a not so healthy routine and luckily it is just as easy to get back on the right track. A couple of years back, I followed the Harley Pasternak Body Reset Diet and it was life changing. Not only because I got the blender out of the cupboard but because it made me think creatively about how to consume fruits and vegetables in new ways. Has especially been helpful as we’ve worked hard on various diets to help our daughter. When we initially started the gluten free casein free diet we were so afraid our granola bar, milk loving child may starve to death. Thankfully, blending great tasting smoothies helped get us through the tough stages.
Last week was all about smoothies. I’m surprised the blender isn’t smoking considering how hard I had it working - so thankful for the Vitamix workhorse. No ice cream or icy alcoholic drinks for seven whole days and yet I didn’t get bored and I didn’t feel cheated. Probably can thank the awesome Nutella Coffee Smoothie for that - it was like having dessert and breakfast all in one. If you want to eat well, you have to find ways to make great tasting food combinations. Every smoothie I made this week hit a taste bud so I really didn’t feel like I was missing out.
In case you missed it, here is a recap:
Now for a bonus smoothie
I’m really enjoying chia seeds right now and I’m totally wondering why it took me so long to add these to my smoothie routine.
I love peeling and throwing in a full orange rather than using orange juice in a smoothie. You have to try this Orange Banana Berry Yogurt Smoothie with Chia seeds. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do. Plus its chocked full of Vitamin C, Protein and Fibre and requires no added sweetener.
