I love Aguas Frescas
As you all know from my earlier post – I love Aguas Frescas. I hate plain water. I know, I know. It’s not a popular opinion but I find it so boring and I can only drink a little of it on its own unless I’m in the middle of a really intense workout or stuck outside in 35-40 degree (celsius, of course) weather. I know drinking water is important so I can often be found with squirting Kool Aid or Mio into my water when I’m on the go.
At home, its so easy to add some fruit or veggies to your water. Just enough to give it flavour but not enough to make it dense or feel like your drinking a smoothie.
Yesterday, I had some left over cucumbers and lime from my last batch of Aguas Frescas and my husband brought home some nice looking strawberries from the grocery store. So, I decided to find out if strawberries and cucumbers go together…seemed like a low risk experiment even though my husband was looking at me like I was out of my mind when I started adding all the ingredients to the blender.
Have to say, the outcome was better than I expected. Not too sweet but a bit thicker than the Cucumber Lime Aguas Frescas. I didn’t add any sugar but did add a couple of drops of Stevia. I have nothing against sugar, it was just out of reach as I was hiding it from my 7 year old daughter who thinks its great fun to eat sugar out of her hand. I’d suggest starting with a couple of tablespoons and adding to taste.
I’ll definitely make it again but may try mixing the strawberries and water first and then straining it to make the consistency closer to that of water.
