Who doesn’t like peanut butter and jam? How about a peanut butter and jam smoothie? I can’t think of too many things that I remind me more of my childhood than eating this flavour combination. My mom always made the best strawberry jam…just thinking about it makes me so hungry. I’m also a big peanut butter fan and my daughter (K) seems to have inherited that from me. I catch her with a big spoon in the jar regularly. She has very little interest in putting the peanut butter on bread.
I offered to make K a smoothie the other night and she brought me the jar indicating that I should use it. She doesn’t talk much but she has no problem communicating what she wants or doesn’t want like most kids. I didn’t have any jam on hand so decided to try to make a bit of a strawberry puree in the blender using frozen strawberries and just a bit of honey. I was able to get a good consistency that mimicked jam and gave me a base for the smoothie. Then, added peanut butter, milk and frozen yogurt to the blender and crossed my fingers. The smoothie was pale in colour but not in taste and I had a hard time believing that you could truly get the taste of PB&J let alone drink it through a straw.
Well, how do I judge the success of the PB&J smoothie? I think the slurping sounds and smiles are enough to go by.
