Is it a Juice or is it a Smoothie?
I’m going to refer to this latest recipe as Strawberry Cucumber Mint Juice but feel free to disagree.
I found myself with 1/2 a cucumber left last night after undertaking to make Cucumber Mint Ice-Cream (don’t worry, I’ll share the results of that with you all very soon. Updated: see results here) and wondered how could I use it. It still seems really odd to me how often my recent creations have relied upon cucumbers. I hated cucumbers growing up – I still won’t eat them unblended. I’m not sure exactly why. I’ve always liked the freshness of the smell of a cucumber and I’ve really learned to love the taste of blended cucumbers inan aguas frescas or smoothie.
So back to the question at hand…what makes a drink a Juice vs a Smoothie? According to wiki, Juice is essentially liquid that has been extracted from fruits or vegetables whereas a smoothie is defined as a blended beverage of fruit or vegetables with a milkshake like consistency.
Well, still not settled. I made the recipe below (sans ice) and it was very much the consistency of an orange Juice. I did decide to add a cup of the ice to blender to thicken it further so I’m kind of on the fence – perhaps it was Juice and then I made it into a Smoothie because I added ice 🙂
I’ll let you call it whatever you want as long as you call it “good”. A refreshing treat that borders on Aguas Frescas. Try it, enjoy it and know that you are getting lots of good Vitamins in the form of K, C, B1, B6 plus Potassium. What’s even better? My daughter drank an entire glass without any prodding – I think she liked the bright pinkish colour.
